For years I have wanted to have our own little family Halloween celebration. Nothing big or elaborate–I guess that’s the same thing–but just enough to counteract the sugar rush of Trick or Treating, and also to have a chance to maybe have some creepy goodness on the table like you used to see on the Halloween episodes of “Home Improvement.” Remember Tim the Toolman Taylor and his wife Jill? They put on the best “parties”.
So this year I checked out some cute food for the grandkids, because who wants to scare the littles? Not me. We had Ghost Pizzas, Prosciutto Wrapped Peppers (future post), Clementine Pumpkins, Bat Cupcakes, and Orange Sherbet Punch. Everything was a hit!
I might share the recipe for the pizzas–but the picture didn’t turn out so great. You know, it gets dark a lot earlier and our party was at 7ish and I just really need a light box to take pix at night. But be sure and use Julie’s pizza crust. It was delicious! Officially my go-to crust now.
So there you have it. Here’s a tip: make a little extra sauce because you want each little slider to have just the right amount of flavor. Also, you can do this with sliced turkey and cheese. Or double ham and cheese. Or turkey, ham, and cheese. You know, just be creative and use what you have on hand if you don’t want to go to the store.
I found this recipe on Pinterest.

Ingredients
- 2 12-roll packages of sweet Hawaiian dinner rolls
- 1 1/2 lbs. smoked ham (not honey) or turkey or both
- 12 slices Swiss cheese
- 1 stick of butter--NOT margarine. Seriously.
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon poppy seeds
Directions
- Step 1
- Slice rolls in half, horizontally. Place the bottoms of the rolls in two 9 x 13 pans or a large jelly roll pan works really well.
- Step 2
- Place about 2 shaved slices of ham on each bottom. Cut the cheese slices into 4 parts and place 2 pieces on each sandwich. Place the tops on each sandwich.
- Step 3
- In a small saucepan, mix butter, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder and poppy seeds. Heat until butter is completely melted. Stir to incorporate ingredients.
- Step 4
- Brush the melted mixture over the ham sandwiches. Cover with foil and refrigerate for at least an hour or overnight. These can also be baked right away. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. and bake for 15 minutes or until cheese is melted.
