Chances are you’ve had this Broccoli Salad before. There are a few variations on it out there, even low-carb versions if you’re going sugar-free. Whether you decide to go with or without sugar, it’s still delicious. I’ve done both. (Currently keto, but this version is one I made before going back on keto. )
I remember the first time I saw this salad. Honestly, I thought it was freaky weird. I mean, broccoli and dried cranberries in the same dish? What in the actual heck?
But one taste, and you’re likely to realize the magic. Weirdly delicious.
You can sub raisins for the dried cranberries if you want, but the tartness of the dried cranberries adds a nice touch. As for the onions…um…not a fan of raw onions. But, I’ve found that red onion chopped, no…diced….is the best way to go. And in regards to cheese…I know it’s tempting to buy pre-shredded, but I think you’ll enjoy the final product more if you grate your own, and do it in large, not fine, shreds.

Broccoli Salad

Ingredients
- 5-6 cups broccoli florets (about a pound)
- 1 cup of sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 2/3 cup dried cranberries
- 1/2 cup crumbled bacon
- 1/2 cup salted sunflower seeds
- 1/3 cup finely diced red onion
- 3/4 cup mayo
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. white wine vinegar
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
Directions
- Step 1
- Combine the broccoli, cheese, cranberries, bacon, sunflower seeds, and onion in a large bowl and set aside. (Cover and refrigerate if not eating right away.)
- Step 2
- Combine the remaining ingredients in a smaller bowl to make a dressing and whisk well to combine. (Cover and refrigerate if not eating right away.)
- Step 3
- When ready to serve, pour the dressing over the ingredients in the large bowl and toss to coat evenly. Serve immediately.
